Special temporary call signs that Radio Amateurs may use subject to prior authorisation, from 29 April to 9 May 2011—signifying the marriage of H.R.H. Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton.

Facilitating the use of special temporary Amateur call signs in respect of the Royal Wedding for Amateurs holding UK; Full Licences, Full (Reciprocal) Licences, Intermediate Licences and Foundation Licences;

1. Following a request from the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), Ofcom has decided to permit Amateurs holding valid UK; Full Licences, Full (Reciprocal) Licences, Intermediate Licences and Foundation Licences to apply for and receive authorisation for the use of individual special temporary call signs which are linked to their existing licensed call sign.

2. The only format for the individual special temporary call sign permitted, is as follows:
Subject to prior authorisation, the existing Regional Secondary Locator in the existing call sign may be replaced by the Letter “R” except in the case where no Secondary Locator exists, the Letter “R” may be inserted as a Secondary Locator. For the avoidance of doubt, where the existing call sign commences with the digit “2”, the Secondary Locator i.e. the second character of the existing call sign (the letter “E”, “U”, “D”, “J”, “I”, “M” or “W”) may be replaced by the letter “R”.

3. The duration for use of these special temporary call signs will be from 29 April 2011 through to 9 May 2011 inclusive only.

4. Examples:
G0ABC is amended to GR0ABC
GM0ABC is amended to GR0ABC
2E0ABC is amended to 2R0ABC
2W0ABC is amended to 2R0ABC
2J0ABC is amended to 2R0ABC
M1ABC is amended to MR1ABC
MI0ABC is amended to MR0ABC
MD6ABC is amended to MR6ABC
MU3ABC is amended to MR3ABC

5. To facilitate the administrative process, applicants, both members and non-members of the RSGB must apply to the RSGB and on-line only, by using the following web link:http://www.etcc.rsgb.org/RoyalWedding

6. The RSGB will liaise with Ofcom prior to Ofcom granting the authorisations, and following which, the authorisation will be received by the applicant from the RSGB as indicated on the RSGB website. Any queries regarding the processing of the NoV must be directed in the first instance to the RSGB and not to Ofcom.

7. Early application is encouraged, as Ofcom will aim to process only those requests received by 18.00 on 26 April 2011, although timely receipt of the Notice of Variation to the Licence (NoV) by the applicant from the RSGB will also be dependent on RSGB processing time. NoVs will not be distributed after 28 April 2011.

Click here to apply for your NoV.

It’s been a while, but I am still about.

Well I’ve not been on the radio much, so guess didn’t have a lot to report. But I’ve slowly started actually having QSOs and enjoying the time I’ve spent on the JT65-HF mode.

Due to this, I’ve now update the DXCC page & also the QSL page which was very out of date.

The JT65-HF mode has enabled me to get some more States in LoTW for the Worked all States (WAS) award if I ever decide to go for it.

JT65-HF Software hflink.com/jt65/

Also as a bonus for someone doing a great deal of operating, I am recommending a visit to Keith G6NHU’s website http://qso365.co.uk/ as throughout this year he will be making a radio contact every day.

Hopefully more regular posting will resume soonish.

I went and dug out my old Single Lens Reflex camera and have decided to have some fun with it.

Whilst out shopping my mum picked up some Ilford XP2 Black & White films, which have a clever trick. You can get developed at any film shop with does colour film developing (sometimes referred to as C-41 developing.

If they are printed on Colour paper as well they have a sepia tinge on the photos of a brown or green hue.

I’ve also ordered a cheaper auto-winder for it and if I get any good shots will post on Flickr & here.

It will certainly be different not having the Delete Button and this camera is fully manual.

I wonder how much of my old photography course I will remember.

One night while I was on leave this week I spent few hours chatting on the IRC chat to the “Linux in the Ham Shack” guys until 4am, but knew I wasn’t tired.

I had my pile of QSL card labels printed, but taunting me at the side of the desk.

With no other distractions I continued the labelling. I also had TV on in background. Next thing my sister had got up and was going to work, and I ploughed on with the task.

It ended with me printing (after setting up my Dymo label printer) an few from contacts I had made earlier in the week.

Next time I looked at clock was 9:30am but was all but complete by then.

It’s now nice to have the labelling setup again (hadn’t sorted since my big PC crash earlier in year) and to have this mammoth task finally done.

As a nice outcome I enjoyed working PSK31 again and made 11 contacts alone today on 15m, 17m, 20m, 40, & 80m. Countries worked were England, Greece, Germany, Poland, European Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, Slovenia, France & Hungary.

Also I finally had a QSL with Peter 2E0SQL on 80m PSK as although we run many websites together, the only previous QSO was through a repeater & never on HF. This has now been corrected and the QSL card is done & featured in the post photo.

My next 2 weekends I am at Ham Radio events.

2nd Oct I am going to the National Hamfests http://nationalhamfest.org.uk

8th-10 Oct I will be at the RSGB Convention in Milton Keynes http://www.rsgb.org/rsgbconvention/
